From 26th-28th October our team travelled to Blackpool, UK to take part in ‘The Open’ International competition.
We were delighted to be invited to this inaugural event as competitors and also our Director and Principal Teacher as a guest Adjudicator.

14 WPDA dancers took part over the 3 days with fantastic results in all categories.
From our youngest age 5 up to adult and senior dancers, everyone danced to an exceptionally high standard and competed with some of the best dancers from across the globe.
It was a great experience for our team to dance in the infamous Tower Ballroom, Blackpool which was a wonderful venue and a fantastic dance floor!
Our dancers placed in most finals throughout the weekend, and our very own Gemma O’Brien stole the show by winning the Under14 categories!

It wasn’t all work however, as one of the evenings we all enjoyed watching the World Firework Championships on the Blackpool Promenade which was a great way to finish a day of dancing.
We then spent Friday enjoying some thrills and screams in Blackpool Pleasure beach Theme park which was a fun way to reward both dancers and parents for all the hard work.
Despite flight delays which resulted in an impromptu pop-up hair salon being required in Dublin airport, everyone enjoyed the event and came home with brilliant results all round.

Thank you lastly to our amazing fundraising committee and their efforts to subsidise some of this trip.
We now look forward to our next adventure!
